From the earliest tales told around the fire to the latest best-sellers, literary fiction has always been an integral part of human culture. Through the power of words, authors have been able to capture the complexities of the human experience, explore the depths of emotion, and reveal the inner workings of the human mind. Whether we find ourselves lost in the pages of a classic novel, transported to another time and place, or relating to the struggles of a modern protagonist, literary fiction has the capacity to open up new worlds of thought and feeling. In this article, we will explore the unique qualities of literary fiction and examine how it can help us better understand ourselves and the world around us.

Analysis of The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a classic novel that has been analyzed and deconstructed by literary scholars for decades. The story follows the character of Jay Gatsby as he tries to win back his lost love, Daisy Buchanan, in the roaring 1920s. The novel is known for its exploration of themes such as the decline of the American Dream, the corrupting influence of wealth, and the illusion of love. Literary analysis of The Great Gatsby often focuses on the symbolism used throughout the novel, such as the green light at the end of Daisy’s dock and the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg. Scholars also examine Fitzgerald’s use of language and narrative structure to convey the novel’s themes and motifs. The Great Gatsby remains a timeless work of literature and continues to be studied and appreciated by readers and scholars alike.

Analysis of “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald

“The Great Gatsby” is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925, which has become a classic of American literature. The story is set in the Roaring Twenties, a time of excess and decadence, and follows the life of Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire who throws lavish parties in the hopes of reuniting with his former love, Daisy Buchanan.

The novel is a commentary on the American Dream, the idea that anyone can achieve success and prosperity through hard work and determination. However, Fitzgerald portrays this dream as ultimately unattainable and corrupt, as Gatsby’s wealth and status are built on illegal activities and his obsessive pursuit of Daisy.

The themes of love, wealth, and class are also explored in the novel, as Gatsby’s love for Daisy represents both his desire for her and his desire for the social status she represents. The contrast between the wealthy and the poor is highlighted through the characters of Gatsby and Nick Carraway, the narrator of the story who comes from a more modest background.

Fitzgerald’s use of symbolism and imagery also adds depth to the novel, such as the green light at the end of Daisy’s dock symbolizing Gatsby’s hope for their future together. The eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg, a billboard advertisement in the valley of ashes, represent the moral decay and corruption of society.

Overall, “The Great Gatsby” is a masterpiece of literature that delves into the complexities of human nature and the flaws of the American Dream. Fitzgerald’s poetic prose and vivid descriptions transport the reader back to a time of glamour and excess, while also exposing the dark underbelly of society.

Mentorship is a key factor in the academic success of dissertation students. A mentor can provide guidance, support, and advice throughout the dissertation process, and can help to ensure that the student remains on track and makes timely progress. A mentor can also offer encouragement and motivation, and can help to keep the student focused on the task at hand.

There is a body of research that demonstrates the positive impact of mentorship on the academic success of dissertation students. For example, a study by Hsu and colleagues (2007) found that students who received mentorship during their dissertation process were more likely to complete their dissertations on time than those who did not have a mentor. Similarly, a study by Allen and colleagues (2008) found that students who had a mentor were more likely to report higher levels of satisfaction with their dissertations, and were more likely to recommend the experience to others.

The benefits of mentorship are clear. If you are a dissertation student, seek out a mentor who can help you throughout the process. Your mentor can make a significant difference in your academic success.

The impact of mentorship on the academic success of dissertation students: a case study.

A mentorship program can have a profound impact on the academic success of dissertation students. By pairing students with a more experienced mentor, they can receive guidance and support throughout the dissertation process. This case study examines the impact of mentorship on the academic success of dissertation students at a large university.

The data collected from the study showed that students who participated in a mentorship program were more likely to complete their dissertations on time and receive higher grades than those who did not have a mentor. In addition, the mentees reported feeling more supported and confident during the dissertation process.

These findings suggest that mentorship can be a valuable tool for dissertation students. If you are struggling with your dissertation, consider finding a mentor who can help you navigate the process.

The impact of mentorship on the academic success of dissertation students: an investigation.

There is a great deal of evidence to suggest that mentorship can have a positive impact on the academic success of dissertation students. For example, a study by Healey and Knight (2000) found that students who had a mentor were more likely to complete their dissertation on time than those who did not have a mentor.

Another study, by Chu and Millett (2006), found that students who received mentorship were more likely to report higher levels of satisfaction with their dissertation process.

Overall, the research suggests that mentorship can be a valuable asset for dissertation students, and can help them to achieve success.

The impact of mentorship on the academic success of dissertation students: a review.

The impact of mentorship is often undervalued in discussions of academic success. However, a review of the literature reveals that mentorship can play a significant role in the academic success of dissertation students.

Mentorship has been found to provide support in a number of areas that are critical to dissertation students, including goal setting, time management, stress management, and coping with setbacks. In addition, mentorship can provide a much-needed sense of community and social support, which can be especially helpful for students who are working on their dissertations alone.

The literature review also showed that mentorship can have a positive impact on the quality of the dissertation itself. Mentored students were found to produce dissertations that were rated as higher in quality by their committee members.

Overall, the literature review revealed that mentorship can be a valuable asset for dissertation students, providing support in a number of areas that are critical to success.

The impact of mentorship on the academic success of dissertation students: a synthesis.

Mentorship has been shown to be a key factor in the academic success of dissertation students. A synthesis of the literature on this topic reveals that mentorship can have a positive impact on a student’s ability to complete their dissertation, as well as their overall satisfaction with the process.

Mentorship can provide students with the guidance and support they need to navigate the dissertation process, and can also help to boost their self-confidence and motivation. In addition, mentorship can help to connect students with a network of other scholars, which can be invaluable during the dissertation process.

The literature on this topic suggests that dissertation students who have a mentor are more likely to be successful in completing their degree. Therefore, students who are considering embarking on a dissertation should seek out a mentor who can provide them with the support they need to succeed.

As grown adults, most of us know the pleasures and sense of comfort that reading can bring. Whether you prefer to spend your free time curling up on the bed with a page-turner, relaxing in nature with a magazine, or rereading your favorite book, again and again, you’re probably well aware that reading can be pure happiness.

However, for a child, who is taking his first steps and is still learning to write and read, there will be challenging times when reading becomes a real headache. There is a lot to learn and many stages to pass before children dive in and get lost in a story they read without extra effort. And the brainpower required for reading can be exhausting, especially at the end of a tiring school day. As such, parents who try their best to help their kids’ reading sometimes face the difficult problem of turning the “daily routine” into a fun and interesting activity.

That’s why, if we want our children to hold on and become skillful readers, we should show them that reading is a great source of fun and entertainment. Here are some useful tips you can consider for engaging unenthusiastic readers and putting some fun into the process for those times when they are struggling. So, let’s dive in.

#1 Make an Early Start

In this case, starting early is the key to success. Even when your child is only learning to speak, there are many ways to slowly bring them to the book world, for example, by introducing them to picture books. From the very moment they start showing an interest in their surroundings, you can accompany them and read aloud, encouraging them to appreciate the pictures and enjoy the book. As they grow up, always make sure to get them books matching their current age. Also, listen to them and take into account their preferences, whether they like superhero series, comics, or detectives, and make sure the books will attract them.

Books are a great alternative to always giving them a smartphone or turning on a cartoon. These can be overstimulating and spoil books for them.

#2 Add Variety

From time to time, kids get a bit stuck on a certain book, generally, one that’s a bit too difficult for them at the moment. In such cases, it’s essential to let them move on to something different.

Make sure they always have something new to read. You can keep track of the newly published children’s books and add some variety to their library. Try to include enough classic and contemporary authors to develop your child’s reading level efficiently. This ensures that every time children need something to do, various books are available for reading.

Also, frequently buying or borrowing books is also a good idea. You can read them not only at home but also take the books with you when traveling, so children can pick up their favorite books when bored rather than ask for your smartphone.

#3 Let The Child Pick Some of Their Own Books

It is essential to allow children to choose their own books. This alone makes reading a voluntary and unique hobby rather than an assignment you have been given. Letting them pick their own books doesn’t change the fact that you should get various books of diverse genres for them. However, along with your chosen books and categories, also buy one according to their likes.

You don’t need to be disappointed if a child enjoys such types of books opposite to your preferences or the ones not recommended by the school or instructors. It’s because they are still young, and their likes and tastes are gradually evolving. The vital thing here is that they enjoy the reading process and want to try some new genres. This applies to kids of all ages.

#4 Take Children to Various Literary Events

In order to keep children interested in reading and avoid making it a boring and repetitive process, it’s recommended to add some new colors and emotions to it. In almost any city, you can find many various children’s book fairs, book clubs, and interactive reading sessions you can join.

Taking your child to such events can help to immerse them in a literary atmosphere. However, if you have a hard time finding one around where you live, you can try to organize some by yourself.

#5 Discuss Books With Your Children As An Equal equal

During your journey of making the reading process a fun and interesting activity, you should remember not to belittle your child’s passion. Why is it so important? Because every time you show interest in their reading, you will automatically validate the hobby. Most parents have this habit of talking down to their children or patronizing them. However, you need to avoid this if you don’t want your child to end up disliking reading.

Instead, talk and discuss all the details with them as an equal. No matter how simple and basic the plot of the book is, make sure to listen to what your children want to say about it and ask them various questions about what they would do in place of the character or how they feel. You can also try to draw comparisons and make connections between the books they are reading and real life.

#6 Set a Good Example

In general, if you are a devoted reader, you won’t have any difficulty raising a good reader. In most cases, parents are role models for their children, and they like to imitate all their actions. Be it the way of talking, walking, or eating, most kids try to behave in a similar way. So by simply observing that books are an indispensable and important part of your life, your children will start to respect and love reading too.

Whenever you can, read a book around them and tell them about the plot. But if you aren’t a habitual reader, you can try to build up your own reading habit along with your child’s.

Some Final Thoughts

Reading, in general, not only gives children confidence and broadens their mindset but also makes their personality more appealing and positive. Regular reading helps them train their brain and clearly present their thoughts and opinions in front of others. What’s more, their imagination and logic improve manifold, enabling them to have a better view of things in their surroundings and store extensive knowledge in their brain.

So, finding the right ways to cultivate reading from childhood is the key to raising knowledgeable, passionate, and confident individuals.

There are books that are quickly forgotten. But there are such works that you remember, and mentally return to the events and the characters. Such stories immerse you completely, they touch the soul. We have compiled a selection of 10 books that do not let go after you close the last page. Among them are classics and novels by contemporary authors. They are of different genres. They have one thing in common – these books are impossible to forget.

Ten books that you do not forget
Erich Maria Remarque “Spark of Life”

This novel is often called the best in Remarque’s work. It is heavy, it is hard to get it out of your head. The events take place in a concentration camp located in Germany. Until the end of the war was very little and probably no one was waiting for the defeat of the Germans, as the prisoners of such camps. The main character, prisoner 509, spent 10 years in the camp. An exhausted, weakened, but not broken man. Next to him are the same “old-timers” who have a hope not to die in this dreadful place. There are only two weeks left until release, but they still have to live.

Catherine Stockett’s “The Servant.”

“The Servant” is the debut and so far only novel by American Katherine Stockett. The book was rejected by several publishers, and as it turned out later – in vain! The novel became an international bestseller, selling 10 million copies in the first year. The book was translated into 40 languages. What did the readers like so much about the novel?

The writer raised a topic that is painful for America today – racial discrimination. The action takes place in America in the 1960s. The main characters were black maids working for white masters. Being born in America in the ’60s was an ordeal for blacks. Separate transportation, stores, barbershops, even park benches. You couldn’t touch a black maid and God forbid you eat with her at the same table. К. Stockett managed to create an accurate portrait of a difficult era. The topic is difficult, but the book is touching, human, funny and sad at the same time.

Guzel Yakhina, “Zuleikha opens her eyes.

The story of a simple woman from a Tatar village. The events of the book begin in the 1930s. Zuleikha’s family falls under the kulakization. Her husband is killed, and the pregnant young woman is exiled to Siberia. She and her unfortunate companions find themselves on the bank of the Angara River. The immigrants have nothing – no shelter, no warm clothes, no food. Fate brought together a variety of people forced to survive in harsh conditions.

Janet Fitch, “White Oleander.”

The main character is a teenage girl, Astrid. Her mother is incarcerated, and Astrid wanders from one foster parent to another. Before going to prison, her mother hardly paid any attention to her daughter, taking care of her own life, so Astrid is a typical unloved child with a lot of psychological problems. The girl reaches out to anyone who lends her a hand. But each time she gets disappointed and closes herself off more and more from people, from the world.

Fredrik Backman’s The Second Life of Uwe

Swedish writer F. Backman gained worldwide fame precisely because of this book. Backman writes about ordinary people and their problems. The hero of the novel is a lonely elderly man with a difficult character. Neighbors try to stay away from him to avoid comments and moralizing. No one knows that at heart Uwe is kind, sympathetic and always ready to help. All these qualities come to the surface when new neighbors show up. Buckman manages to make readers fall in love with a seemingly unappealing character. After all, there is something good in every human being.

Jody Peacolt’s “Angel for Sister.”

An emotionally heavy story. All of the characters make mistakes, but everyone can be understood. A mother living to save her terminally ill daughter. A father who supports his wife in everything, but realizes that the other children are suffering. The son who feels lonely and unwanted. The teenager is ready to do the wildest things, just to be noticed. The youngest daughter, thirteen-year-old Anna, who was born as the perfect donor for her sister. From birth she had blood taken for transfusions, then bone marrow for transplants. Now she must give her sister a kidney. The girl sues to get the right to dispose of her own body. And the ending of this story is completely off-balance. This book is definitely not something to forget, closing the last page.

Archibald Cronin’s Castle Brody

A heavy book about “toxic relationships” within a family. True, there was no such term when the novel was written, but the phenomenon itself existed. The father is a tyrant who bullies everyone in the family. The mother is a frightened and unhappy woman. The children, who are each trying in their own way to find their freedom. James Brody appears to be a respectable man, but he has put his family through hell. This book does not let go for a long time, leaving after reading a lot of feelings and thoughts.

England has made a tremendous contribution to the treasury of world literature. Today, as 200 years ago, millions of people enjoy reading the novels of D. Austen and C. Dickens, S. Bronte and W. Thackeray, as well as other talented novelists of the past. Yes, and modern British writers annually delight wonderful works. I wonder which of our contemporaries will be recognized classics?

Jane Austen “Pride and Prejudice”

Jane Austen’s most famous work. This love story was read in the 19th century, but it has not lost its popularity in our time. Perhaps the novel attracts modern readers because the author touches on topics that are relevant today – social inequality, marriages of convenience. Several times the book was filmed, and not only in England.

The British countryside. There are five daughters in the decent but not wealthy Bennet family. Mrs. Bennet is anxious about their future. How can she find good husbands? She has high hopes for her unmarried neighbor, and when his aristocratic friend from London comes to visit him, all the mothers in the neighborhood get excited. The meeting of the main characters Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy takes place at a ball. At their first meeting, there is an animosity between them. Darcy believes that Elizabeth, who is lower on the social ladder, is not worthy of his attention. The girl dislikes his snobbishness and arrogance. But when have such trifles ever gotten in the way of real feeling? True, it will take a long time for the characters to figure out their relationship.

Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre.”

The story of the poor governess who found her love has been read by generations of female readers. Cinematographers also did not leave this novel without attention. The first film based on the book was released in 1934. The novel was filmed nine times.

Jane is an orphan. For several years she was raised by her aunt, but the relationship did not work out and the girl was sent to a boarding school. After graduation, Jane stays to work as a teacher, and two years later becomes a governess in the rich Thornfield estate. A nine-year-old girl becomes her ward. Her guardian is the owner of the manor, Mr. Rochester. Gradually, a sympathy arises between Rochester and the modest, not very pretty governess, which develops into love. But many trials await the characters before they are together.

Oscar Wilde’s “Portrait of Dorian Gray”

This is O. Wilde’s only novel. He wrote plays and short stories. He was incredibly popular during his lifetime and not just because of his writing. Too many scandals were associated with his name. It is very difficult to determine the genre in which “The Portrait of Dorian Gray” was written. Critics have classified it as a gothic novel, a parable, a mysticism. The plot of this work is very unusual.

Dorian Gray is a handsome young man of twenty. He becomes the model for a talented painter. Dorian is delighted with his portrait and says aloud that it would be nice if the portrait would age rather than him. The artist gives him the painting. Lord Henry takes part in the young man’s destiny. Dorian begins to lead a secular life. He falls in love with the aspiring actress Sybil. The young people announce their engagement. But they are not destined to be together, Dorian blames himself, worries and for the first time sees that his portrait begins to change. As time passes, Dorian is still young and beautiful. The years and events that have passed reflect not on him, but on his portrait.

Wilkie Collins “The Woman in White”

One of the first detective novels in world literature. It also belongs to the genre of the gothic novel. The author approached the plot in a sweeping way. What in this work just no! Forged documents, family secrets, children born out of wedlock, secret brotherhood – and that’s not all.

Walter is a young artist who finds a place as an art teacher. He goes to a secluded estate and on the way he meets a stranger dressed in white. The woman is agitated and haunted. Walter helps the new acquaintance. This encounter sets in motion a series of events that will change the artist’s quiet life.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle

This collection includes 12 stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes. Each of the stories was published in a magazine, all were very popular with readers. The complete collection came out in 1891 and included “The Painted Ribbon,” “The Blue Carbuncle,” “The Union of Redheads,” and others. Conan Doyle called “The Mottled Ribbon” his favorite – it is perhaps one of the most famous Holmes stories.

Holmes is approached by a young girl who has recently lost her sister. She died under mysterious circumstances. Now the girl fears for her life and fears her stepfather, suspecting him of her sister’s death.

Joan Rowling’s “Casual Vacancy.”

Д. Rowling needs no introduction. She conquered the world literary Olympus with her series of children’s books about Harry Potter. But there are adult novels in her bibliography as well. The cycle about detective Cormoran Strike, written under the name of Robert Galbraith, as well as the story about a provincial town, The Casual Vacancy.
