We have compiled a selection of December book novelties. Some of them are already out, and others will be published a little later. Perhaps our selection will not only help you to find something to read, but also choose a New Year present.

Sally Rooney’s “Conversations with Friends.”

Sally Rooney is a young Irish writer who has been called a “literary phenomenon.” She wrote her debut novel, Conversations with Friends, at age 26. For the right to publish it seven publishers arranged an auction. Rooney’s second book “Normal People” was already published in Russian in 2020. And now we can find out what hit the critics and readers of the debut novel of the young author. One of the most anticipated books of December 2020.

The main character is a student named Frances. She and Bobby have been friends since high school. The girls attend poetry nights and there meet a married couple – photographer Melissa and actor Nick. A friendship develops, which ends in a scandal with Frances and Nick having an affair. The girl is judged by her friends and relatives. Many problems arise. So Frances for the first time faces adulthood and all its “charms”.

Robert Galbraith “Bad Blood”.

The fifth novel about a private detective Cormoran Strike. It is no longer a secret that these detectives under a male pen name writes the “mother” of Harry Potter – Joan Rowling.

Cormoran travels to Cornwall to visit relatives. After successfully completing his last cases, Strike’s name never leaves the newspaper pages. A stranger turns to him for help. Forty years ago, her mother went missing. The daughter wants to know what happened to her. Strike takes up the investigation, though he is unsure of success. Too much time has passed. It’s hard to find witnesses. Even if they are found, they don’t remember much. But suddenly this old case becomes deadly.

David Baldacci’s “Redemption.”

The famous American writer D. Baldacci writes in the genres of detective and thriller. He has nine years of legal practice, so that the topic of crime is familiar to him firsthand.

Amos Decker dreamed of a sports career. But because of a head injury, he was forced to quit sports. After the injury, Amos became the possessor of a phenomenal memory. This is a plus in the job – Decker is an FBI agent. But there are also disadvantages – some events you want to forget, but it does not work. At the cemetery where Decker’s daughter and wife are buried, a man approaches him. Meryl Hawkins was the first murderer Amos arrested. Hawkins spent 13 years behind bars, now dying and released on health grounds. He claims he didn’t kill anyone and was paying for someone else’s crime. Decker is sure he couldn’t have been wrong, but he will soon have to remember all the details of this old case.

Angela Marsons “Fatal Promise.”

Fame came to the British writer in 2015, after the release of the first detective about Kim Stone, a policewoman. Today there are nine books in the series.

Inspector Kim Stone is out of the hospital and ready to get to work. Last year’s investigation ended tragically. There’s no time to bounce back. Especially since the new case is quite complicated. Found murdered doctor, gynecologist, with whom Kim already faced. Then his guilt could not be proved, and now it is necessary to find the one who brutally dealt with Gordon Cordell. His head was smashed, his throat was cut, dozens of stab wounds – someone made the doctor very angry. Soon the gynecologist’s son dies. Then the mother of the mistress dies. What are all these deaths about? Kim realizes that if they don’t find the killer soon, there will be other victims.

Cassandra Monteg “After the Flood.”

Debut novel by an American writer. She was previously known as a writer of poems and short stories.

A novel in the genre of post-apocalypse. A global cataclysm occurred on Earth. Almost all of the territory was under water. People are trying to survive on the mountain peaks – only they were not flooded. This new world is not for the weak. Myra spends almost all her time in the boat with her young daughter. She rarely appears on land. She exchanges her catch for necessities. By chance, Myra discovers the whereabouts of her eldest daughter, whom she has not seen since the flood began. The mother faces a long and dangerous voyage, but no one will stop her.

Sophie Kinsella “Shopaholic and Christmas.”

Another book in the Shopaholic series by the popular English author. All of Sophie Kinsella’s books are a great way to lift your spirits. Funny characters, funny situations, funny dialogues. And this book also has a Christmas theme.

Becky returns to England to celebrate Christmas with her family. The girl expects everything to be the same as always. A family party, Christmas carols, traditional pudding and creepy sweaters. But the parents manage to surprise. They moved in! And all the hassle of organizing the party falls on Becky. And it’s not that easy! But the girl has no intention of giving up. Although she’s always getting distracted. It’s going to be a wonderful Christmas! But maybe a little crazy.
